Oliver Shampine Announces Candidacy for Ottawa County Commissioner

Grand Haven, MI – Oliver Shampine, a lifelong resident of Ottawa County, has officially declared his candidacy for Ottawa County Commissioner. The announcement was made during the Ottawa County Commission meeting on April 24th, 2024.

“As we enter the month of May, symbolizing renewal and new beginnings, I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for the Ottawa County Commission. This is a time for growth, change, and fresh perspectives, and I am dedicated to bringing innovative solutions to our community,” said Shampine. “I am committed to revitalizing our county, promoting unity, justice, and community well-being. Together, let’s embrace this season of renewal and work towards a brighter future for all residents of Ottawa County.”

Shampine, 21, resides in Grand Haven City and serves as the Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator at St. John’s Episcopal Church. He has been actively involved in local politics and is deeply connected to the future of Ottawa County.

“In the current political climate, the Ottawa County Commissioners do not represent me, my generation, or future ones,” Shampine stated. “They represent an Ottawa County that’s never existed. Ottawa Impact has invaded our county, and their commissioners have destabilized a once nationally respected administration through their radical incompetency.”

Shampine’s decision to run is rooted in his commitment to Ottawa County’s future. He believes that the current administration, supported by Ottawa Impact, has misallocated taxpayer dollars and created a toxic environment, leading to the departure of many skilled employees.

“My campaign is centered around Our Five Pillars: Renewal and Restoration, Community Wellbeing Programs, Fair Housing, Stewardship of the Earth, and Transportation Equity,” Shampine explained. These policy pillars are detailed on Oliver’s campaign website.

Shampine aims to restore decency to the Ottawa County Commissioner seats. He pledges to treat the citizens and employees of Ottawa County with respect and advocate for a budget that prioritizes their services.

“Finally, I commit to upholding high ethical standards in the office and making decisions that are in the best long-term interest of the people and employees of Ottawa County,” Shampine affirmed. “Through these actions, I believe Ottawa County can retain qualified employees, provide high-quality services, and be a place where we all belong.”
